El Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos confirmó este miércoles la inclusión de 10 hondureños en la nueva versión de la Lista Engel de "actores corruptos y antidemocráticos".

Los nombres de los hondureños que aparecen en la lista destaca el excandidato del Partido Liberal, Yani Roshental, así como otros liberales.

Nombres de hondureños que aparecen en la Lista Engel:

Alex Alberto Moraes Giron, a former administrative manager of state-owned Strategic Investment of Honduras, engaged in significant corruption by misappropriating public funds during the COVID-19 pandemic, including by defrauding the Honduran government of approximately $1.6 million intended for facemasks to be used by medical personnel.

Alexander Lopez Orellana, the current mayor of El Progreso and secretary general of the Liberal Party’s Central Executive Council, engaged in significant corruption by improperly awarding multi-million dollar municipal contracts to his political allies.

Edna Yolany Batres Cruz, a former minister of health, engaged in significant corruption when she defrauded the Honduran government of more than $300,000 by colluding with Ministry of Health officials and private-sector businesspeople to improperly award government contracts.

Jesus Arturo Mejia Arita, a former general manager of the Honduran National Electric Energy Company (ENEE), engaged in significant corruption by awarding non-competitive or overpriced contracts for the generation of electricity and other energy-related services in exchange for bribes, and by facilitating corrupt schemes related to the hiring and firing of ENEE employees in exchange for kickbacks.

Marcelo Antonio Chimirri Castro, the former director of the Honduran Telecommunications Company, engaged in significant corruption by committing fraud to improperly keep a telecommunications agreement in place in exchange for bribes and obstructed investigations into his corrupt acts by intimidating journalists.

Miguel Rodrigo Pastor Mejia, a former director of the now-defunct Secretariat of Public Works, Transport, and Housing, engaged in significant corruption, laundering money on behalf of the Los Cachiros drug trafficking organization, by awarding $2.76 million in Honduran government contracts to a Cachiros-controlled construction firm.

Roberto Antonio Ordonez Wolfovich, a former minister of infrastructure and public services, former minister of energy, and former presidential advisor to President Juan Orlando Hernandez, engaged in significant corruption by embezzling state funds through the overvaluation of public works projects.

Samuel Garcia Salgado, a current member of the Honduran National Congress from the Liberal Party, undermined democratic processes or institutions by manipulating the outcome of the Supreme Court of Justice election in 2023 for his personal and political gain.

Victor Elias Bendeck Ramirez, a private businessman and former member of the Central American Parliament, engaged in significant corruption through a series of fraudulent business activities in the banking, real estate, and other sectors and by using his influence with government officials for his personal gain.

Yani Benjamin Rosenthal Hidalgo, the current president of the Liberal Party in Honduras, undermined democratic processes or institutions by manipulating the outcome of the Supreme Court of Justice election in 2023 for his personal and political gain.  Rosenthal also used his influence with government officials to escape accountability for apparent violations of Honduran law by his family-owned cable company.

Desde la revocación de visa estadounidense hasta el bloqueo de propiedades son algunas de las sanciones que Estados Unidos impone a quienes figuran en la conocida Lista Engel, por lo que aquí te las enlistamos:

Inelegibilidad para visas de admisión a EE. UU.: El listado se vuelve inadmisible para recibir visa u otra documentación para entrar al país norteamericano; y no es elegible para ser admitido o puesto en libertad condicional en EE.UU. para recibir otro beneficio bajo la Ley de Inmigración y Nacionalidad.

Visas vigentes revocadas: Se revocará cualquier visa o documentación de entrada emitida a una persona extranjera sin importar cuándo se haya emitido la vista u otra documentación.

Revocación inmediata de visa: La revocación bajo la cláusula entrará en vigencia de inmediato y cancelará automáticamente cualquier otra visa válida o documentación de entrada que esté en posesión de la persona extranjera.

Bloqueo de propiedades: La máxima autoridad de Estados Unidos impondrá bloqueo de cuentas bancarias y propiedades dentro de los estados de la nación.
